CCYSA Meeting Minutes December 2002

Kim called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m.
Attending were: Chip Dodson, Kim Moyer, Pam Lettie, Anastasios Mavrellis, Frank Beam. Mike Casey arrived at 7:38 p.m.

MINUTES: Approved as distributed, but Kim asked that we include the amount of money that we will get for the six SFL teams.

TREASURERS REPORT: None

VYSA: Small-sided games are mandated in the fall. There is a required compliance this year and a national recommendation that is mandatory in 18 months. If a league doesn't follow the recommendation, then in 2004, they would be in "bad standing," which means that refs can't ref and that teams aren't recognized. Player passes won't be recognized and no insurance would be offered. The bottom line: We have to comply. Number of players are:
Age Required Now Required in 18 months
U6 4v4 3v3
U8 5v5 4v4
U10 7v7 6v6
U12 None 8v8
The board, coaches, interested parents could attend a 90-minute presentation prior to fall '03. Also VYSA is going to non-results games in U6-U8-U10 games. Other recommendations Kim has heard for preinstructional teams include: no organizing leagues around games, every child should have a ball and having parents and children attend a once-a-week practice together. If CCYSA decided to go to a program where the preinstructional children/parents only have a weekly practice together, the CCYSA board is considering using pennies rather than shirts and buying a ball for each younger player. VYSA Spring registration fees are due April 1, delinquent by April 15 and in bad standing by May 1. The VYSA annual meeting is Jan 24-25 in Arlington and costs $20. A motion was made the CCYSA will pay the $20 fee for those wanting to attend. Contact Mike Casey at 955 4412 if you want to attend; use the acasey@shentel.net to e-mail him.

EQUIPMENT: Some equipment is still missing.

PARK: Kim gave Lisa Cooke the new contract. She didn't have any issues with our requests; all went smoothly. Doug and Lisa were going to meet about how the fields laid out. Chip suggested that the park not use flags that split apart, because it leaves a spike in the ground that could hurt someone.

REFEREES: Checks have been sent. As far as the recertification of referees, Mike moved that CCYSA pay the recertification fees if a referee has refereed seven games in the previous season or ten games in the previous two seasons, rather than reimbursing them.

TRAINING: Loudoun and Fairfax have upcoming D and E courses that our folks could participate in. Mike will see if we can combine u6-u8 training.

COACHES: Mike got reject shirts from Signet. Coaches need to cut off the sleeves and wear them inside out. Mike will mail coaches' survey, but hasn't yet. CCYSA is considering some kind of incentive for coaching. The head coach (one per team) could be a $20 rebate for one child's regular registration, but it wouldn't apply to late registration. Check would be issued after the first game for those who assume the coaching responsibility.

SPRING PICNIC: We are hoping to find a sponsor for the picnic so we can have it catered. Anyone who knows someone who would be interested, please call Kim!

REGISTRATION: We reviewed the form. We decided that registration will be accepted even after late deadline to fill out teams at the board's discretion. Placement will not be guaranteed after Feb. 28.

BOARD: Kim is not prepared to accept a two-year term without having someone as "vice commissioner" who is willing to step into the commissioner's role next year.
