Minutes for CCYSA Board Meeting of December 13, 2000
Attending: Chip Dodson, Frank Beam, Kim Moyer, Dan McGarvey, Kelly Macklin, Doug Lawrence, Jon Kardashian, Tom Robb, and Lawrence White
I. Contract with the Park: Chip reported receiving a letter from Terrie Simmers with some Proposed changes to the contract: we would pay 33% of soccer maintenance costs and no overall park maintenance; Chip sees it as a work in progress, and that we will always be continuing negotiations. CCYSA is still concerned about the lack of a maintenance Performance clause, and still would prefer a per player fee rather than a minimum /cap which Terrie Proposed. She will be out of the office until Jan. 2. Lawrence White, chair of the Park Advisory Board, explained that only 1-2% of the overall maintenance costs are covered by user's fees. The park's budget is $600,000 per year; 56% is paid by self supporting Programs, the county pays the other 44%. The county has added 2 more maintenance workers, one of whom should spend 80% of the time at the park. The soccer user fee is not supposed to go to capital improvements, Mr. White believes. Terrie has asked for numbers of users to apply for funding from the county and state. Does the Park know of revenue Opportunities of soccer tournaments? Chip thinks we can operate without the Park, and will, if necessary, but we would prefer to stay in the park. Terrie has agreed to allow for a 2-hour proactive ever field (originally, she said it would be closed for everything but games), for which the travel teams could pay a rental fee, if they desired to Practice there.
II - No minutes or treasurer's report were filed. Dan has a report to go in the newsletter.
III. New board members: both Doug Lawrence and Jon Kardashian were present to indicate their willingness to serve on the board. Jon Kardashian has a daughter Playing in CCYSA (his son now plays baseball). He wants to look out for all the kids; he is concerned about the park being empty; want to make a difference, has been trying to educate himself on the issues, and wants to be part of the solution.
