How teams are formed (Please Read & acknowledge, to proceed)
As the number of participants registering for soccer each season varies between 200 & 400 players and the number of returning coaches also varies each season, it is important to note that there are NO guarantees that coach requests can be honored. In many cases, it is actually a goal of the league to expose children to different coaches over the years. Registration is open for approximately 2 months prior to team creation. Still, some families call well into the start of the season to register their children. Team creation is based on the number of registered kids and time is needed to find coaches & sponsors, buy and distribute equipment, layout and prepare field space, etc. That is why registration closes about 3 weeks before the season starts.
First, the number of teams needed for each level is determined (divide the number of kids registered by the number per team, example: 60 U6 kids divided by 6 per team = 10 teams, 10 (to 20) coaches and 10 sponsors). Every attempt to have a coach and a sponsor for each team is made. A coach meeting is held for coaches to select their own practice times and days. CCYSA does not control the practice days that work best for each coach. Volunteer members of the CCYSA board create rosters for each team in the following manner:
Place coach’s child(ren) on team
Place assistant coach’s child(ren) on team
Place sponsor’s child(ren) on team
Now a team potentially has 3 (for a U6 team) slots left open and to fill those we must consider the following:
Creating appropriate male to female ratio (even # of boys and girls on each team)
Creating appropriate age ratio so no team has all the oldest kids or all the youngest kids
Working to overlap sibling practices, where possible
Accommodating requests from registration forms (practice blackout days, kids of coaches at other levels, etc.)
For questions about the availability of honoring specific requests, don’t rely on rumor, contact a board member. While we want it to be a fun recreational & learning experience, primary focus must be given to what is best for the league at large – evenly matched teams. I understand that the volunteers at CCYSA do the best to meet the needs of EVERY child. I accept that any specific requests I make may not be met.
