CCSL's COVID-19 Guide

GUIDELINES FOR A SAFE RETURN TO PLAY

CCSL’s top priority is safety and asks parents/players, coaches and referees to adhere to the following protocols. Many of these protocols are outlined in VYSA’s Phase 3 Return to Play Guidelines, and others are drawn from local health officials, U.S. Youth Soccer and other youth sports clubs.

The following briefly outlines CCSL’s protocols related to COVID-19 for this season. Protocols may be adjusted throughout the season. Direct any questions or concerns to [email protected]

Everyone

  • Will ensure anyone who has symptoms of, has tested positive for, or has been exposed to COVID-19 follows appropriate guidelines for quarantine or isolation. Persons with symptoms should stay home until CDC criteria for ending isolation have been met.

Players

  • Players and coaches will wash hands with soap and water, or sanitize with alcohol-based hand sanitizers containing at least 60% alcohol. (Sanitizer provided by CCSL.)
  • Will bring their own water and will not share the water with others
  • Will refrain from spitting, high-fiving or shaking hands
  • Will be required to take home, clean and return to practices and games, a CCSL-issued pinny (if the coach issues one)
  • Will respect each player’s choice related to masks. If a player wishes to wear a face mask, they may, but it is not required.

Parents/Spectators

  • Will assess player(s)’ temperature, health and contact exposure prior to practices/games and communicate proactively with the coach, following CDC health and quarantine guidelines
  • Will communicate and reinforce player standards (listed above) with their own children
  • Will maintain minimum social distancing, as defined by the CDC, when attending practices or games
  • Will respect each player’s choice related to masks.
  • Will not approach referees for any reason
  • Acknowledged and agreed to the Communicable Disease Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk Agreement directly within the CCSL registration system. Also accessible at https://bsbproduction.s3.amazonaws.com/portals/28611/docs/covid-waiver.pdf

Coaches

  • Players and coaches will wash hands with soap and water, or sanitize with alcohol-based hand sanitizers containing at least 60% alcohol. (Sanitizer provided by CCSL.)
  • Will designate areas on the sidelines so that players belongings will be spread 6 feet apart for use during practices/games
  • Will conduct the equipment check on players (shin guards, cleats) during warm-ups before games (previously conducted by referees prior to the start of a game)
  • Will not bring team benches to the games, and if benches exist at the field already coaches will encourage players to maintain proper spacing between each other
  • Will have hand sanitizer on the sidelines for players
  • Will issue practice pinnies to players to manage/maintain for the season
  • Will handle, manage and disinfect CCSL-issued equipment following each use
  • Will conduct practices/training that minimizes situations that result in “close contact” as defined by CDC, where practicable
  • Will do the following at practices/games

Greet players and parents and remind them:
    • To sanitize hands
    • To maintain physical distancing
    • To place individual equipment at an unoccupied cone
    • To not share personal equipment
    • Only coaches should handle practice equipment
    • If you are sick, stay home/leave

Referees

  • Will wear masks before and after games, but may remove the mask during the game
  • Will socially distance during meetings with fellow refs, before and after the game
  • Will sanitize the game ball
  • Will not enforce any social distancing unless it applies to their own safety. Coaches and parents should not ask the referees to make people back away from each other, separate other spectators, etc. It is not the referee’s job to police COVID-19 protocols on the spectator sidelines
  • Will issue a red card offense and immediately send off a player who purposefully spits or coughs on/at another player

CCSL

  • Will train, monitor and reinforce safety protocols
  • Will schedule practices/games and situate fields to best support social distancing
  • Will post safety signage and designate areas for spectators to support social distancing guidelines
  • Will issue sanitizer to CCSL teams
  • Will update safety protocols when applicable
